Friends in Christ, today the scriptures invite us to recognize God’s presence in both the extraordinary and the quiet moments of our lives. Elijah, weary and afraid, expects to find God in powerful displays of nature but instead hears Him in a gentle breeze. This reminds us that God often comes to us in stillness and silence, inviting us to listen with the ear of our hearts. In the Gospel, Peter bravely steps onto the water at Jesus’ command. For a moment, his faith carries him—but when fear takes over, he begins to sink. Jesus immediately reaches out and saves him, gently reminding Peter (and us) to keep our eyes and trust fixed on Him, especially in the storms of life. Through these readings, we are encouraged to seek God’s presence not only in big miracles, but also in quiet, everyday moments. When we feel overwhelmed or afraid, like Elijah or Peter, God is there—sometimes in a whisper, sometimes with an outstretched hand—always ready to strengthen our faith and draw us close.
